Stranger Things has the distinct honor of being an overnight cult phenomenon, which is kind of crazy for a streaming-based series. Were you overwhelmed by the intense reception?
For sure. I was drawn to the show from the moment I read the script for the pilot; the Duffer brothers had a really strong idea of what they were doing from the start. But no matter how hard you work on a project -- the cast and the crew and everyone -- when it's out in the world it's like, you have no idea how it's going to be received and for the response to be so, so positive... I mean, that's just the dream, right? It's awesome. I keep pinching myself.

Was working with Winona Ryder also a pinchable moment? Was it weird having such an iconic woman play your mother?
A hundred percent, yeah. She's this gorgeous, incredibly cool woman, and she's got -- it sounds so douchey when I say it, but she has a really generous spirit, so filming with her was an amazing experience. She's rad, honestly. She gave me a vintage Clash t-shirt from a concert, like one that she went to when she was younger, because that's Jonathan's favorite band on the show. I'm gonna treasure it forever.

The fact that Nancy and Jonathan didn't kiss killed me. Did you do any takes where they did that were cut?
A lot of people were bummed about that. In the screen test, originally there was a scene where Jonathan and Nancy got together, but Steve was a really different character in that draft. He was a lot less cool, more of a dick, really, but then they brought in Joe [Josef Quentin] and the character evolved, and I think that relationship makes a lot more sense now, the way they did it. Jonathan also has a lot going on with his mom and his brother, you know, he's gotta be there for them. He's gonna be spending time with Will and Joyce, where maybe Steve is what Nancy needs right now.

I don't know how much you can talk about next season, but now that Jonathan and Steve have semi-bonded, what's the dynamic going to be like?
I can honestly say I have no idea about season two yet! We got scripts for season one episode by episode, so we were all kind of experiencing it like the audience, in a way. You know as much as I do right now, man. But I think the cool thing for Jonathan is like, he's a loner, he maybe doesn't connect well with his peers, and now he and Nancy and Steve all have this crazy experience that bonds them together. He has a chance to be less of an outsider now and have friends, or whatever, his own age. I'm looking forward to what happens next for him, for all of them, after this one crazy week -- the events of season one all happen in a week! -- in their lives. I'm really stoked to find out what's to come.

Q
anonymous asked: i really love dom and joe's friendship but i can't help wondering WHEN WILL FORNABROZY COME BACK FROM THE WAR?

A

i feel your pain anon. tasm2/fornabrozy fandom was such a magical place for about 0.2 seconds in late 2014/early 2015 but the crazy tinhats who couldn't understand the line between fictional shipping and real life ruined it for everyone and after that shitshow of a press tour i'd be surprised if they've spoken at all in the past year and a half. i really don't think dom and james will ever rekindle that bromance unfortunately. :( let's just hope stranger things fandom stays chill and doesn't ruin quentbrozy the same way.

domambrozy miss u every day buddy. call me so we can bring back date night.
